Long Beach, California - Fun in Costa Mesa - Sunset Beach & Rogers Gardens
Hi from Long Beach, California - Fun in Costa Mesa - Sunset Beach & Rogers Gardens
Hello from Long Beach, California! I've had a blast in Costa Mesa. A wonderful time at Sunset Beach and Rogers Gardens is just the beginning.
Delicious Meals and Wonderful Company
I've only been here a short time, but my dance card has been totally filled with activities that I'll describe shortly, along with two very interesting human beings - Margaret Lloyd, my hostess. She's an 78-year-old woman of the world who's charming, sophisticated, bright, energetic, generous, and fun.
Breakfast here is a main event - each meal, actually, has been a main event! So much delicious food, great variety... I'd get chubby from all those calories if I didn't keep moving. Yesterday, Margaret drove us south on Pacific Coast Highway while Chris worked on his computer.
Exploring the Coast and Gardens
Leaving Long Beach, we drove through Seal Beach, Sunset Beach, Huntington Beach, Newport Beach, past Balboa Island to Corona del Mar, California. Our first stop was Sherman Library and Gardens, where Margaret is a member. This little garden is exquisite - I've visited botanical gardens around the world, and this one fits right in.
We also stopped at Ruby's, a classic hamburger place with great music from the 40s and 50s... Ella Fitzgerald was singing as we left!
Rogers Gardens Nursery
Our next stop was Rogers Gardens, the most magnificent retail nursery I've ever seen. Check it out online - people! It's totally impressive.
In the evenings at Margaret's home, both nights have been delicious dinner meals with huge chocolate desserts... custard, strawberries, ice cream, whipped cream, and of course lots and lots of chocolate!
On to New Adventures
That's a wrap for now. Thanks for reading about my adventures in Southern California! I'll keep you posted on where I go next - maybe Phuket, Thailand? Never leave the playground, folks... The playground doesn't care how old you are.
Warmly,
Stephen Jepson
